I've been taking Zoloft for a few days now and the side effects have gotten a lot worse. It has made my anxiety shoot through the roof, to the point of full blown panic attacks. I'm feeling nauseous and weak all the time, and I wake up with really bad muscle pain, and I feel like I didn't get any sleep. I thought this stuff was supposed to make your anxiety better WTF?

It's an usual side effect. Especially at the first days, tending to subside.
I felt the same with Lexapro. An horrible feeling, for me almost unbearable. As said above, take benzo! good luck! |

Well, I'm gonna try to tough it out a little longer, taking it with Klonopin is making it a little easier.

worked in my teen years. As an adult I went a year taking it and the increase in dose made me less inhibited, more apt to say and do things that were "odd". I stopped and tried again over the years but it just makes me feel edgy, like someone shot caffeine in my vein. Also It suppressed my appetite and made me sick just looking at food. I do have severe bipolar/schizophrenia in 2 of my immediate family members so the zoloft could have just been a trigger. Oh well, on to the next. maybe I'll try prozac.

I have GAD/SAD/ADD... I've been on 150mg Zoloft for 1.5 years and 20mg Adderall x 3 times a day and things are mostly great except for the libido.
So, my doctor is putting me on Effexor to try and reduce the sexual side effects. I'm a little leery about the withdrawal of this drug, but it's impossible to know how it's going to affect you unless you try. So, wish me luck. |

Anyone take it at night before bed? I feel alot better when I do. Been on zoloft for a week and a half now
Also, would this effect the buildup that is taking place: Took 50mg at 9am, didn't take it until the next night at 10pm? |

No, you'll be OK, but just make sure you try to take the dose at about the same time everyday. It's OK to switch from morning to evening every so often until you find out which suits you the best, just not every other day, lol!!! |

From what I've read it depends on the person, but I hope it plays nice with me. Zoloft was awful with sexual side effects for me. I could have been looking at a naked Playboy model and thought "huh, she's naked" and walked away.

I hope it plays nice with you, too. I've tried ALL the SSRIs and SNRIs and every one of them was like chemical castration for me. The only one that didn't (doesn't) is Remeron (mirtazapine). It's in a class by itself, known as a tetracyclic AD--- Good luck! |

I have been on zoloft for about a month now. The doc started me out on 50 mg and I took it before bed. The next morning I ralphed my guts out and was horribly sick and cracked out feeling for about two days. I continued the treatment, though, cutting my dose in half for the next week. I recall feeling numb and bored. Like my exciteability senses were dulled. The first day I felt like my head was floating.
Today, I feel it gives me more patience. I was becoming a bitter betty. It helps me not be soooo up and down. However, I still have had panic episodes. I still am anxious, for the most part. I am also still quite nauseated. As with any medication, there are pros and cons to the drugs. Give and take. You simply need to decide if the sacrifices are worth it. |

Thought I'd try Zolft - have been taking it for 7 days - I take it in the morning. Had some nausea at first but not too bad - mostly just makes me feel like I want to sleep. Lexapro did this to me as well. I could happily just lie around and sleep all day. Does relax me a bit - makes it easier to handle the stresses of home life - yelling teenager and ex-wife, large barking dogs etc etc. Completely eliminates any sex drive. Think I might forget it and go back to my stressed and awake self.

Life calmed down a bit, so restarted Zoloft. Been on it about 5 weeks. Recently upped dose to 100mg. No positive effect so far.
edit: 8 weeks of no response, so dropping it. Waste of money for me, IMO. |

I did Zoloft 3 years ago. Though I'm trying it again. I'm only on my second day now.
On my first day: -I felt a little nauseous, but not too bad, I ate a little bit more to suppress that. -A little sleepy. Wasn't able to nap but slept my typical hours -No vivid dreams yet. -I was able to study 100 times better surprisingly. Usually I would stare into the book and read over and over and Its like it wouldn't register in my head. Now I was able to jump right in and take notes without much distraction -It was bit harder to get into 'deep' thought On my second day so far: -Can't stop feeling hungry even after having just ate My third and fourth days: -were pretty good with not much anxiety Fifth day: -More anxious then normal. Just while sitting and doing nothing, I keep thinking about worrying and I feel the anxiety coming on -much less appetite

Social Anxiety Background
Both SAD and GAD. I originally started seeing a psychologist in November 2011 because of SAD. SAD became very prevalent in college, and it hasn't gotten any better (in fact worse) in the past 4-5 years since college. I pretty much fit the bill — having a hard time talking with people, lacking confidence when making eye contact, second-guessing what I did/did not say after conversations, dreading upcoming social events, simply not going to social events, negative internal dialogue, etc. My psychologist also noted that my SAD developed during the time in life that it can develop for people with a genetic component. I do believe that this is the case. My maternal grandmother was a big worrier. While I don't know for sure if she had GAD, I wouldn't be surprised if she did. Yes, GAD too. I have that. Other Treatments CBT. Tried a mixture of Vitamin D & B complex. One of each, once a day. My psych suggested this when I originally was gung-ho against real medication. Well, here I am posting about Zoloft — so obviously the D/B vitamin regimen didn't work well for me! Treatment Experience Just started this week. My psychiatrist recommended that I take my 50mg pills and cut them in half for the first week just to start low. So I've only had 25mg doses for the week. Then 50mg/day for the next few weeks after that until I see her again for a follow-up. |
