Niacinamide is just another form of niacin (vitamin b3). It's better to supplement with because higher doses can be used. Too high a dose of normal niacin causes vasodilation which causes your skin to itch and turn bright red (temporarily.)
There are studies that suggest it is somewhat anxiolytic, but it is definitely not going to be a miracle cure. Still, it's a good supplement to take. What kind of dose are you using daily? Personally I find a good magnesium supplement (like magnesium glycinate) to have a much more noticeable effect.

Interesting to note is that niacinamide's anxiolytic effect is assumed to be similar to benzos, so even if you were able to get the same anxiety relief you get from xanax, you'd probably get everything else that comes with it too.

niacinamide takes at least a month to kick in according to what I've read. the dr who started giving niacinamide to patients with disorders back in the 50's or 60's said in an article that he added 1g of niacinamide 3 times a day with meals for a patient with anxiety, along with other things like high doses of c, b6, zinc, and folic acid.
