Default after years of substance abuse, which vitamins which help repair the brain.

hi to everyone, this is my 1st post on here but ive been a avid read for a while.

well my social anxiety was caused by 4years of taking Ecstasy while at university (very stupid)...which has now taken its toll i guess.

ive been using fish oils (at first high in dha, but now epa) for over 3years but ive only just started to use 3grams of epa/dha a day for nearly a month.

also been using a high strength vitb/c.

One of the things that ive been thinking is... some people have been saying that 'your body my be low on certain chemicals (mag etc)' thats why my social anxity is bad...but before i started taking the 'E' tablets i was just a normal kid with no anxiety whatsoever, so i cant be low on stuff like magnesium etc...so im guessing that ive caused some serious brain damage while at uni and i was wondering if anyone else on here suffers from SA due to substance abuse (partially ecstasy) and if so which vitamins (if your taking any) or anything else helped?

thanks for your time.

Fish Oil is your safest bet by far, as well as a healthy diet (lots of protein, water, fruits and vegetables) exercise, magnesium, and staying away from any other drugs, stimulants esp caffeine, and alcohol. Also, supplements like 5HTP will only alter your serotonin even more from your body and brains natural ability to produce, so not a good idea

I have found vitamins actually make me irritable jittery and anxious due to the b vitamins stimulant effects. I cant tolerate caffeine anymore, and it causes very uncomfortable feelings, almost like a mild case of akathisia, so my advise is to stay away from it.

hi thanks for getting back to us. yeah im defo sticking to the fish oils, 3grams a day...trying to get hold of the nordic range but being here in the uk is hard and pricey, taking 3 grams of the stuff a day is easily gonna cost me £50 a month! but its really the only brand ive found that has had tests carried out with their product and its won loads of awards too.

i was taking the vit b but im gonna stop that now, cus from what you've said and previous ppl its made them more anxious! thats a rite bumma as i heard it could do some pretty good stuff to helping the brain...im stiking well clear from cola and fizzy drinks too, no tea etc or chocolate, and defo no vodka red bulls on a sat nite now, or as id like to call it 'anxiety in a can'! that red bull stuff sends me wappy.

thanks for the info.
