Default Giving up the ale. Mmm... Ale

Hi!

Since I've joined here I've decided to 'get better'. A bit late, after over a decade of social phobia, but better late than never. Bit rich me coming on here, venting and raging all the time, 'OMG my life sucks I wanna die!' , then not actually taking any steps sort it out.

I'm quitting the sauce. Been off it for 3 days. Going to get alchohol counselling. That is the first phase of my glorious five year plan to get a job and a partner and something vaguely resembling a life. Not sure if anyone will care, but posting this here is kind of my way of 'promising' myself that I will do this.

So no more:

Thanks for reading!

I feel your pain, brother.

I drank my whole teenage life to deal with my issues. It was the only life I'd ever known, but it just got to be too much, so at twenty three I gave it up...

I'm not going to lie...the first year was pure hell, but trust me...it does get better. Mind you my social life took a total dive, but at the same time I've never felt better mentally.

The lifestyle change is the hardest part, defiantly.

Good luck, man.

Thanks people!

Jay - Good stuff, I'm glad to hear you got that monkey off your back - whilst still young as well. Always good to deal with these things *before* they wreck your whole life, and you did, so fair play to you.

The lifestyle change is the worst. I gave up weed a year ago - but my friends still smoked it. Sitting in a room full of smoke when you're properly gagging for a spliff wasn't good.

Same now. Giving up drink in this stupid country is basically like giving up life. It's the pub or go F yourself. So this will be hard, but I'm sure I'll deal with it.

Thanks for the props, the rest is up to me!

I am attempting the same thing. I turn 23 at the end of the month, and I'm finally gettin sober after seven or eight years of booze and drugs. Physically I feel better already (quit cigs as well), but damn it I don't know what to do with myself. This is gonna be tough.

haha...Yeah every time someone mentions the UK the first image that pops in my mind is a pub full of people wearing soccer jerseys drinking beer from over sized mugs.

Ha! Yeah, pretty much... Apart from the oversized mugs, that's Germany/Holland etc. Giving us pints of beer is bad enough, if they gave us those... Well, it doesn't even bear thinking about...

Wow! I mean, weed and booze, that's one thing... But cigarettes!

Aw s0d it.

I got rat @rsed yesterday. That was 4 days. 4 days! If you read any of my posts yesterday it should be pretty obvious how p!shed I was. Really, I was posting some insane drunken rubbish and I'm ashamed of myself.

Sorry people. You were really kind and encouraged me and stuff and I messed up. But I'll start over and see if I can go longer than 4 days this time. I haven't given up yet!

it's okay, zombie sheep!

four days is better than none, and i'm glad to see you're going to try again. the only way to truly fail is to give up entirely.

i like reading your posts by the way.

Good luck. I can't say I've ever experience that kind of difficulty. I'm pretty much t-total since I only drink with other people and that hardly ever happens.

Thanks FL.

I'm impressed by the posters on here - yourself included - everybody seems really clued up. People are friendly too, that's why I've been posting here every day... Lol, I really need a girlfriend.

Good to hear you drink responsible-like. When you're getting completely paralytic at home it's not so good - especially if you get tempted to post a load of insane ranting on the net like I do. Rest assured I'll be seeing the alchohol counseller soon. I'll try and get my pal to go too, he drinks every day (even at work!) and his girlfriend is p!ssed off about it.

Thanks to everybody for their support - I CAN DO THIS!

Cheers Anna!

I am gonna keep trying!

Like I said in the previous post - posters here are quality. Shame that the real world doesn't see that much of people here - it would make the world a much nicer place.

Oh, and I'm glad you actually enjoy my demented ranting!

I wish you luck! I would love to quit drinking myself but unfortunately, my drunken persona is the only one that has friends ( and fun) ; )

That is so true of me as well! When I used to drink 'til I blacked out I'd make friends with people at pubs etc. and not even remember them.

Then I'd be walking along the street and people would come up and be like 'Hi Ed!' and I'd be like... 'Wtf? Who are you?'. It was really embarassing. When I'm sober I don't even speak to people.
