As long as she is not a danger to herself, I don't see how that level of life disruption would be called for. Trying new meds that may wind up making you more nutty is going to be just as stressful whether you are confined in a hospital or not. Feeling like one could pull ones hair out is a lot different than feeling like you could put a gun to your head and doesn't require as much drastic action.
